The Current Market Landscape
The THC beverage market has experienced explosive growth, with sales surging up to 112% year-over-year in key markets and the global market projected to grow from $1.65 billion in 2025 to $7.60 billion by 2035. This rapid expansion has attracted attention from major mainstream retailers and brands seeking to capitalize on shifting consumer preferences away from alcohol.
Major Retail Players
Target pioneered mainstream retail entry by beginning to sell hemp THC beverages at 10 stores in Minnesota in October 2025, marking the first time a major national retailer officially carried intoxicating hemp-derived drinks. The pilot program includes brands like Trail Magic, Cann, Wynk, Hi Seltzer, Gigli, and Wyld, sold exclusively through Target’s liquor stores with age restrictions.
Circle K announced the most ambitious mainstream entry, planning to roll out hemp-derived THC beverages in as many as 3,000 stores nationwide beginning in 2026. The convenience chain partnered with Horticulture Co. to launch Allen Iverson-branded beverages containing 10 milligrams of THC per can, first in the Carolinas and Florida before expanding nationally.
Sprouts Farmers Market began selling hemp-THC drinks in approximately 115 stores across Texas and Florida in January 2026, offering eight brands including Cann, Delta, High Pour, Magic Cactus, Nectar, and Wynk. This move by the health-focused grocer signals the category’s alignment with wellness-oriented consumers.
Total Wine & More and other liquor retailers embraced hemp beverages earlier, preceding the major retail chain announcements.
