Liberty In a Can

Cannabis Edibles and Drink Review had the pleasure of speaking with Parker Jackson, co-founder of Liberty In a Can.

CEDR: What led you to get into the cannabis industry?

Parker: Josh Magnus and I share a deep appreciation for craft cannabis. So products made with just care, quality, purpose. When we discovered THC beverages in Tennessee about two years ago, we saw an opportunity to elevate both product quality and branding. We wanted something that was just cleaner, faster acting and more enjoyable than what we were seeing.

Drawing inspiration from the rise of alcoholic seltzers, we chose to make a THC seltzer that aligned with more modern tastes. Zero calories, but also no artificial sweeteners or ingredients, and a crisp profile that just feels right.

Our vision was to build a brand that could be the Bud Light of the THC space. Something that’s light, iconic, proudly American. Liberty in a can represents a freedom party. Everyone’s invited to celebrate the pursuit of happiness. So that’s a feeling we wanted to share.

CEDR: What makes your products unique?

Parker: For one, we use full spectrum cannabis. A lot of producers out there are using thc, and  it’s isolated. We use the full spectrum to benefit from the entourage effect. So having those minor cannabinoids and some of those terpenes in there not only add to the flavor, but certainly the effects. So the high is not just more efficacious, but also more tolerable. It makes the experience nicer.

We wanted to use more of a premium extract. And that’s why we have those other compounds in there. Another aspect is definitely that nutritional profile. Many of the seltzers out there are a little bit more like diet sodas in the fact that they do have some type of sweetener in there. So maybe they have a bunch of zeros, but they’re not truly zero sweeteners. Ours is just a little more refreshing because of it being completely devoid of any sweeteners. Another element is the onset. We’ve had great predictability and consistency in our dosing, which is extremely important.

CEDR: Any new products that you’re working on ?

Parker: We’ll be launching a 10 milligram can. We’ve seen the majority of the market be satisfied with the 5’s and the 10’s, but we’re also working on a 25 milligram to serve some of those even higher dose consumers.

CEDR:Where do you see the industry heading in the next five years?

Parker: I think there will be more of a focus on creating experiences. I think brands are learning from some of the most innovative players in the (non-cannabis) drink space, like Liquid Death. Red Bull’s has always been an inspiration for us. Besides selling drinks globally, they’ve built a brand that’s rooted in entertainment and unforgettable experiences. And that’s what we want as well.

I think with cannabis use rising, we’re going to see the trend continue of people drinking less alcohol and that opens the door for new brands and venues to kind of reimagine the social experience. I think these products will also become more intentional. You’ll start seeing ones for sleep, daytime or whatever. I think again, the ones that are going to stay around are going to focus on the human experience.

CEDR: Thanks Parker for the great insights! Please keep us posted on your progress.
