The Role of Terpenes in THC Beverages

Do all THC beverages that have the same numbers of milligrams (10 mg. for example) have the same effects on you? The answer is likely no and that’s because the companies making these products are including other elements like terpenes into their formulations which  can lead to a differentiation of effects.

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds in cannabis and other plants. While THC provides the primary psychoactive effect, terpenes impact the experience, helping makers to craft drinks that tend to have specific effects.

Limonene, for example, tends to deliver an uplifting, energetic feeling, while Myrcene provides earthy notes associated with calmness and relaxation. Linalool has soothing, floral aromas and Pinene is often linked to focus.

By blending these terpenes, manufacturers aim to create predictable, repeatable (and marketable) effects. As THC beverages continue to evolve and the industry matures, these ingredients and processes will surely become more exacting and effective as well.
